Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

No. You cannot load or unload the machine with the door locked. Resolve F35 before continuing use.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Yes — turning off the power for 10 minutes usually releases a mechanical lock. If the lock re-engages when power returns, the lock assembly has failed.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: The door does not open even after 10 minutes with power off, The emergency release does not work.

Symptoms You May Notice

Door will not open after cycle ends

The cycle completes but you cannot open the door — it remains locked

Lock indicator stays on

The door-lock LED remains lit even though the cycle has finished

No unlock click

You do not hear the normal click of the lock releasing

Machine may show F35 on the display

The code appears when the unlock timeout expires

Possible Causes

1

Bi-Metal Lock Element Stuck

The bi-metal strip in the lock heats up to lock and cools to unlock. If it is stuck in the heated state, the door stays locked.

2

Lock Solenoid Fault

The electromagnetic lock mechanism has failed in the locked position.

Requires Professional
3

Residual Heat

After a very hot cycle, the lock's bi-metal element takes extra time to cool and release.

4

Wiring Issue

5

Control Board Fault

The board is not sending the unlock command.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

    Wait 5 Minutes

After a hot cycle, the door lock may need extra time to cool and release. Wait 5 minutes and try again.

This is especially common after 90°C or 95°C cycles.

  2. 2

    Power Reset

Turn off at mains for 10 minutes. The lock should release when power is removed. Try opening after power-off.

Most Miele door locks release mechanically when power is cut.

  3. 3

    Try the Emergency Release

Some Miele washers have an emergency door release — a small tab or pull cord inside the filter access panel at the bottom front. Check your manual.

The release is usually a small orange or red tab.

  4. 4

    Run a Short Cold Cycle

If you can start a new cycle through the control panel, run a quick cold rinse. The lock may release at the end of the new cycle.

A cold cycle avoids further heating the bi-metal element.

  5. 5

Check for Water in the Drum

If water remains in the drum, the safety interlock keeps the door locked. Check if F04 (drainage fault) also appeared. If so, resolve the drainage issue first.

Drain through the filter access before attempting to open the door.
