Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. Without heating, the dryer cannot dry clothes effectively. If the thermal fuse tripped due to overheating, the root cause (usually blocked airflow) must be resolved first.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Yes — if the thermal fuse is auto-resetting, cooling the machine and resetting may restore heating. If the element itself has failed, F14 will return.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: No heat after cleaning and reset, Burning smell.
Symptoms You May Notice
No warm air
The drum spins but air remains cold
Clothes still damp after full cycle
Without heat, moisture cannot be evaporated
F14 mid-cycle
Appears during the heating phase
Cycle runs indefinitely
The machine keeps running, waiting for temperature that never comes
Possible Causes
Failed Heating Element
The element has burned out or developed an open circuit.
Requires ProfessionalTripped Thermal Fuse
The safety fuse has tripped due to previous overheating.
Requires ProfessionalFaulty Thermostat
The cycling thermostat has failed, preventing heater activation.
Requires ProfessionalRestricted Airflow
Blocked lint filter or vent caused overheating, which tripped the thermal fuse.
DIY PossibleWiring Fault
Loose or damaged connection to the heater.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Clean Lint Filter and Vent
A blocked airflow path is the root cause of many heating faults — overheating trips the thermal fuse. Clean everything.
If the lint filter was very dirty, this may be the root cause.
-
2
Power Reset
Turn off at mains for 15 minutes. Some thermal fuses auto-reset after cooling.
Some are one-time fuses that need replacement — but try cooling first.
-
3
Run a Test Cycle
After cleaning and reset, run a timed dry on medium heat. Check for warm air after 5 minutes.
If warm air returns, clean the vent system more thoroughly to prevent recurrence.
-
4
Check for Tripped Breaker
Some dryers use a double breaker — if half trips, the motor runs but the heater has no power.
Check that both breaker poles are in the ON position.
-
5
Note All Codes
F14 + F01 = sensor and heater issue. F14 + F03 = relay and heater issue. This helps diagnosis.
Write down all codes.
