Miele Washing Machine Door Hinge Safety Check — W1 Series

Safety Notice Summary

Miele issued a precautionary safety notice for a limited production run of W1 series front-loading washing machines. The notice concerns the door hinge mounting bracket, which may develop stress fractures after extended use, potentially allowing the door to detach from the machine during loading or unloading. This is a precautionary measure — the number of reported incidents is very small relative to the number of units in service.

Affected Models

The following W1 series models manufactured between March 2019 and September 2020 are covered:

  • WCA 330 WCS (Active compact washing machine)
  • WCI 330 WCS (mid-range compact model)
  • WCR 860 WPS (premium model with TwinDos)
  • WCR 870 WPS (PowerWash 2.0 model)

Locate the rating plate on the inside of the door frame to identify your model and serial number. Only units within a specific serial number range are affected — contact Miele to verify.

Hazard

The hinge mounting bracket, which connects the glass door assembly to the machine body, may develop micro-fractures at the attachment points after approximately 2–3 years of regular use. If a fracture progresses, the door could separate from the hinge, particularly when opened with force or when loading heavy items. This poses a risk of injury from the detaching door and from sharp edges on the broken bracket.

Miele received fewer than 10 reports globally of hinge bracket failures in the affected production batch. No serious injuries have been reported.

What to Do

  1. Inspect your washing machine door hinge visually. If you notice any cracking, looseness, or unusual movement in the hinge area, stop using the machine.
  2. Contact Miele customer support at 1-800-999-1360 to check if your serial number is in the affected range.
  3. If your unit is affected, a Miele technician will replace both door hinge brackets free of charge.
  4. The repair takes approximately 30 minutes.

If your machine is within the affected serial number range but showing no visible signs of hinge wear, you can continue using it until your repair appointment — but avoid opening the door with excessive force.
