Safety Notice Summary
Miele issued a safety notice for certain KM 6000 series induction cooktops sold between 2019 and 2022. A manufacturing variation in the ceramic glass panel may cause the glass to develop stress fractures during normal use, particularly when exposed to rapid temperature changes. In rare cases, the glass surface may crack or shatter, posing a risk of injury from broken glass and potential contact with live electrical components beneath the cooking surface.
Affected Models
The following KM 6000 series induction cooktops are covered by this safety notice:
- KM 6117 (4-zone induction cooktop, 60cm)
- KM 6322 (4-zone induction cooktop, 80cm)
- KM 6349 (6-zone induction cooktop, 90cm, PowerFlex)
- KM 6366 (full-surface induction cooktop, TempControl)
Units manufactured between June 2019 and February 2022 may be affected. The rating plate with model and serial number is located on the underside of the cooktop, accessible from beneath the countertop.
Hazard
A variation in the tempering process of the ceramic glass surface may leave residual stress points in the panel. During normal cooking — particularly when cold items are placed on a hot zone or when liquid spills onto a heated surface — the thermal shock can trigger fracture propagation from these stress points. The glass may crack visibly (a single line or web pattern) or, in rare cases, shatter into fragments.
If the glass surface is compromised, there is a risk of electrical contact with the induction coils beneath. The cooktop should be switched off immediately at the circuit breaker if any crack is observed.
What to Do
- If you notice any crack, chip, or fracture in the ceramic glass surface, stop using the cooktop immediately and disconnect it at the circuit breaker.
- Do not attempt to continue cooking on a cracked surface — even hairline cracks can expose live electrical components.
- Contact Miele customer support at 1-800-999-1360 to schedule a free glass panel replacement.
- A Miele technician will replace the ceramic glass panel at no charge for affected serial numbers.
If your cooktop glass is intact and showing no signs of damage, you may continue using it normally. However, avoid placing frozen or very cold items directly onto a heated cooking zone, and wipe up liquid spills before they reach a hot surface.
