PT1000 Oven Sensor Short Circuit
The F5 error code on your Miele Oven indicates pt1000 oven sensor short circuit. This is a High severity issue. The PT1000 platinum resistance temperature sensor in the oven has a short circuit. Found on newer Miele H-series ovens (H4000+, H5000, H6000, H7000 series). On steam ovens, F05 indicates the water nozzle needs descaling. What […]

Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. Conventional oven: no temperature regulation. Steam oven: scale buildup affects steam quality and finish.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Steam oven F05 clears after successful descaling. Conventional oven F5 requires sensor replacement.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: F5 returns after power cycling (conventional), Descaling does not clear F05 (steam oven).
Symptoms You May Notice
"F5" or "F05" on the display
Appears at startup or during heating.
Oven will not heat
The oven refuses to start a heating cycle.
On steam ovens: descale alert
F05 on DG/DGC models means the water injection nozzle is clogged with limescale.
Possible Causes
PT1000 sensor short circuit (conventional oven)
The platinum resistance sensor has failed with a short circuit.
Requires ProfessionalWater nozzle limescale (steam oven)
On steam ovens, calcium buildup in the water nozzle triggers F05.
DIY PossibleSensor wiring damage
The sensor cable has been damaged by heat exposure.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Identify your oven type
Check if you have a conventional oven (H series) or a steam oven (DG/DGC series). The fix differs.
DG = steam oven, DGC = combination steam oven, H = conventional.
-
2
Steam oven: run descaling
If you have a DG/DGC model, run the built-in descaling program using Miele descaling tablets.
Regular descaling every 3 months prevents F05 recurrence.
-
3
Conventional oven: power cycle
Turn off at breaker for 5 minutes. If F5 returns, the sensor needs professional replacement.
PT1000 sensors are more precise than NTC but cannot be repaired — only replaced.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified Miele technician if:
- PT1000 reads near-zero ohms (should be ~1000Ω at room temperature)
- Sensor cable heat-damaged
