Dishwasher High Severity
F68 Miele Error Code

AquaStop Inlet Hose Fault

The F68 error code means the AquaStop system on your Miele dishwasher's inlet hose has detected an abnormality. The electronic safety valve at the tap end of the hose is either not opening, not closing properly, or reporting a fault signal to the control board.

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

No. The AquaStop hose is a safety device. If it has failed or triggered, do not bypass it. The dishwasher should not be used until the AquaStop hose is tested and either confirmed functional or replaced.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Yes — turn off at mains for 10 minutes and also cycle the water tap. If the AquaStop valve reinitializes, F68 may clear. If it was triggered by an actual leak, a reset will not help — the hose needs replacement.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: The AquaStop hose indicator shows red (leak has occurred), The valve does not click at all during fill attempts.

Symptoms You May Notice

Dishwasher does not fill with water

The AquaStop valve remains closed, blocking all water from entering the machine

F68 appears at the start of a cycle

The code triggers as soon as the machine tries to open the inlet valve during the fill phase

No water sounds during fill

You do not hear the usual rushing water sound that accompanies the start of a cycle

AquaStop hose indicator may show red

Some Miele AquaStop hoses have a small inspection window that turns red when the hose has triggered

Possible Causes

1

AquaStop Valve Malfunction

The solenoid-operated safety valve inside the AquaStop hose has failed electrically or mechanically. This is the most common cause (~50%).

Requires Professional
2

Water Supply Turned Off

The tap feeding the dishwasher is closed or only partially open, and the AquaStop system interprets the lack of flow as a fault.

3

Electrical Connection Issue

The wiring between the AquaStop hose and the control board is damaged, loose, or corroded — the board cannot control or read the valve.

Requires Professional
4

Previous Leak Triggered AquaStop

A past leak filled the outer jacket of the double-walled hose, permanently activating the safety mechanism. The hose must be replaced.

5

Control Board Relay Fault

The relay on the main PCB that powers the AquaStop valve has failed, preventing the valve from opening.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

    Check the Water Supply Tap

Verify the shut-off valve under the sink is fully open (counterclockwise). A closed or partially open tap is the simplest explanation for F68.

After plumbing work or kitchen cleaning, this valve is sometimes turned off and forgotten.

  2. 2

    Inspect the AquaStop Hose

Look at the hose connecting the tap to the dishwasher. Check for kinks, visible damage, or water inside the outer jacket. Some hoses have a small red indicator that shows if the safety has triggered.

If the indicator is red, the inner hose has leaked and the entire AquaStop hose needs to be replaced.

  3. 3

    Power Reset

Turn off the dishwasher at the mains for 10 minutes. The AquaStop valve is electrically controlled — a reset may allow it to reinitialize.

With the power off, also turn the water tap off and back on — this resets the mechanical side.

  4. 4

    Listen for the Valve Click

Turn the machine on and start a cycle. Put your ear near the tap connection. You should hear a click when the AquaStop valve opens. No click = no power reaching the valve or valve failure.

The click is subtle — a quiet room helps.

  5. 5

    Test Without AquaStop (Temporary)

If you have a standard (non-AquaStop) inlet hose available, you can temporarily swap it to confirm whether the machine fills normally. This isolates the AquaStop hose as the fault.

Only do this for a single test cycle while watching for leaks — you lose flood protection without AquaStop.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified Miele technician if:

  • The AquaStop hose needs replacement (indicator red or hose triggered)
  • The valve connector or wiring is damaged
  • F68 persists after confirming full water supply and power reset
  • F68 appears together with F69 or F70 — indicating a multi-point water fault
  • The machine is under warranty — AquaStop hose is a covered component
