Water Intake Timeout
The F13 error code means your Miele dishwasher opened the inlet valve but did not receive the expected volume of water within the allowed fill time. Unlike F12 (no water detected at all), F13 indicates that some water entered, but the flow was too slow to complete the fill phase.

Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. Running the dishwasher with insufficient water can cause the wash pump to run dry, overheat, and sustain damage. Do not start new cycles until F13 is resolved.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Yes. Turn off at mains for 5 minutes. If the code was caused by a temporary pressure drop, the next cycle may run fine. If F13 returns, there is a persistent flow restriction.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: The machine does not fill at all — even partially, The inlet valve buzzes but no water enters (may indicate valve failure).
Symptoms You May Notice
Cycle pauses during the fill phase
The dishwasher stops early in the program while attempting to fill with water
Partially filled tub
Opening the door reveals some water — but clearly not enough for a normal wash
Longer than normal startup
The machine spends several extra minutes in the fill phase before giving up and showing F13
Inlet valve clicks intermittently
The valve may open and close repeatedly as the control board retries the fill sequence
Possible Causes
Low Water Pressure
Household water pressure is below the minimum required (~0.5 bar / 7 psi). This often happens when multiple fixtures run at the same time.
DIY PossiblePartially Blocked Inlet Filter
The mesh screen at the dishwasher's water inlet is partially clogged with sediment or mineral deposits, reducing flow rate.
DIY PossibleRestricted Inlet Hose
The supply hose has a partial kink or internal calcium buildup that slows water flow without stopping it completely.
DIY PossibleFailing Inlet Valve
The solenoid valve is opening partially — enough to let some water through but not at the full required flow rate.
Requires ProfessionalFlow Meter Fault
The turbine flow sensor that counts incoming water volume is stuck or miscalibrated, reporting less water than actually entered.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Check the Water Tap
Make sure the shut-off valve feeding the dishwasher is fully open (counterclockwise). Also check that no other appliance (washing machine, sprinklers) is running simultaneously.
A half-open valve can supply enough water for a kitchen tap but not enough for the dishwasher's fill rate.
-
2
Clean the Inlet Filter Screen
Turn off the water supply. Unscrew the inlet hose from the back of the dishwasher. Remove the small mesh screen with pliers. Rinse it thoroughly or soak in vinegar for 15 minutes if there is mineral buildup.
This filter catches sediment from your plumbing — it should be checked at least once a year.
Tools required -
3
Inspect the Inlet Hose
Check the full length of the supply hose for kinks, tight bends, or compression from the machine pressing against it.
Replace the hose if it is older than 10 years — internal degradation can restrict flow invisibly.
-
4
Test Water Pressure
Disconnect the inlet hose from the dishwasher (have a bucket ready). Turn the tap on fully. Water should flow in a strong, steady stream. A weak trickle confirms low pressure.
If pressure is fine from the tap but weak through the hose, the hose itself is the restriction.
-
5
Power Reset
Turn off at mains for 5 minutes. Run a new cycle. If the fill phase completes within 2–3 minutes and the code does not return, the issue was transient (temporary low pressure or a one-time valve glitch).
Try running the dishwasher at an off-peak time (late evening) when water pressure is typically higher.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified Miele technician if:
- Water pressure is confirmed adequate but F13 persists
- The inlet valve does not open (no click, no water sound)
- F13 appears together with F12 — indicating a progressive intake failure
- The flow meter is suspected (rare, but the sensor can fail)
- The machine is under warranty
